The Fourth City Ward of Beloit contains all of the area north of 8th Street. The residents in this section of town are represented by the following City Councilors:
Susan Concannon was elected to the City Council in April of 2005. Susan is a full-time mother and substitute teacher. She was born and raised in Salina, Kansas. Susan received a BA in Psychology from Bethany College. She is a member of the Zion Lutheran Church serving six years on the Council and two years as Council President, Past President of Chapter K PEO, serves on the Beloit County Club Board of Directors, Advisory Boardmember for Solomon Valley Hospice, Past State President of Kansas Medical Society Alliance and Junior High Cheerleading Sponsor.
Susan's family includes: her husband Craig, daughters Jessica and Kelsy and son Curtis. The Concannon's are hosting Michael Schmidt, an AFS student from Germany.
Her hobbies include traveling, sewing, reading and decorating. Susan's biggest accomplishment is being married 25 years and raising three children.
Susan says, "As a new member, I'm still learning but enjoying taking part in the decision making of what happens in our community."
Craig Cousland has served on the Beloit City Council since April 2001. He is a retired teacher that enjoys gardening, carpentry, reading, stained glass and old cars. Craig was born in El Dorado, Kansas and was raised in Liberal, Kansas. He has lived thirty-seven years in Beloit. Craig received his high school diploma in 1964, his BS degree from Fort Hays State University in 1968, and his MS degree at Fort Hays State University in 1972.
Craig's family includes: his wife Nancy, son Jordan, and daughter Brennan Eilert.
Craig sees learning as a life long process and likes learning new concepts that he needs in order to make good decisions as a councilman.
Craig says, "I would encourage the public not only to contact their elected representatives but to get involved with city government by attending public meetings and even running for public office."
