The City of Beloit, the county seat of Mitchell County, is located in the Solomon River Valley in north central Kansas. It is in the heart of the Smoky Hills in the land of the Kansas Post Rock.

Beloit is governed by a Mayor, Rebecca Koster, and a City Council, with the day-to-day operations managed by a City Administrator, Doug Gerber.

In addition to providing the public water supply and wastewater treatment, the city is also the local electric utility.

Beloit is also the gateway to beautiful Waconda Lake. The Lake, also known as Glen Elder Reservoir, offers numerous opportunities for the outdoor enthusiast, including fishing, boating, and hunting. The area surrounding Waconda boasts over 11,000 acres of prime public hunting ground.

The wonderful Municipal Building in downtown Beloit contains a full gymnasium, and a weight room for use by the public. Chautauqua Park, owned and maintained by the city, is one of the prettiest parks in Kansas, and offers a wide variety of recreational opportunities including a swimming pool, and fishing in the Solomon River.
