The Mayor of Beloit, Kansas

The Mayor of Beloit is elected every four years with the election held on the first Tuesday of April. The mayor presides at all meetings of the governing body. He or she shall have the tie-breaking vote on all questions when the members present are equally divided. He or she shall:

Have the superintending control of all officers and affairs of the city;
Sign the commissions and appointments of all officers elected of appointed;
Endorse the approval of the governing body on all official bonds;
From time to time communicate to the City Council such information and recommend such measures as he or she may deem advisable;
Have the power to approve or veto any ordinance as the laws of the state shall prescribe;
Sign all orders and drafts drawn upon the City Treasurer for money.

The Current Mayor is:

Phillip Roberts was elected Mayor in April 2005. Phil serves Beloit in many ways. One of the ways he does this is through his job as a Funeral Director at McDonald-Roberts Funeral Home. A very active individual, Phillip is the Treasurer of the Beloit Lions Club and serves on the United Methodist Church Finance Board. Phil has lived in Beloit for twenty-eight years, graduating from Beloit High School in 1991. He continued his education at Kansas State University by earning a degree in Mass Communications/Public Relations in 1995. Phillip was involved in the Beta Theta Pi social fraternity while at KSU. He also graduated from the Leadership Mitchell County Program, is the past president for the Beloit Lions Club, the past co-president of the Solomon Valley Catbackers Association, the past City Council president, served as K-18 Twin Lakes League Commissioner and coached the Beloit K-18 Baseball Program for six years.

Phillip's family includes: his dog Phoebe, his parents Max and Marie Roberts (Beloit), sister Jennifer Hoeme, husband Jess and two nieces Blaire and Brooke and nephew Jenson.

Phillip says, "I really enjoy giving something back to this community that I've grown up in, and to show the youth in this community that it is fun to be involved in activities."
