The First City Ward of Beloit contains all of the area south of Main Street. The residents in this section of town are represented by the following City Councilors:
Raymond "Butch" Pontow has served on the Beloit City Council since April 2003. Butch has lived in Beloit since 1991. When he is not working as a Truck Driver for the Mitchell County Highway Department, Butch enjoys doing yard work, home repairs and traveling. Butch also enjoys spending time with his family, including his wife Susan, his daughter Darrah and husband Steve Buren of Lawrence, his son Jeremy and wife Jill and his grandchildren Noah and Madeline of Lincoln, NE.
Butch's favorite thing about being a City Councilor is "interacting wtih Beloit government officials and citizens of Beloit, working to make Beloit a better place for all whol live here."
Tom Maxwell has lived in Beloit all of his life except for the twenty-two he served in the United States Air Force. He graduated from Beloit High School before attending the Community College of the Air Force. In December of 1983, Tom retired from his military career and returned to Beloit where he currently works as a car salesman for Beloit Motor Company. Tom has served on the City Council since April 2000.
Tom's family includes: his wife of thirty-seven years Mary, son Mike and wife Stacy with grandchildren CheyAnne and Dalton; son Mark and wife Katy with grandchildren Lacy, Caly and Jacob; son Matt and wife Rachel with grandchildren Issac, Adelaide, and Cedric.
Tom's says this about being on the City Council: "I enjoy having a hand in trying to get Beloit up and growing again. I also consider it a compliment and a pleasure to be elected to serve the People of Beloit."
