The Parks and Recreation Department is consists of two Divisions: (1) Parks and (2) Recreation.

The Recreation Division is responsible for planning, organizing, promoting, and controlling the City's cultural, sports and leisure programs which utilize City facilities, including the Swim Center, City parks, the Sports Complex, the Fitness Center and the Municipal building. The Recreation Division utilizes volunteers and seasonal employees to accomplish its responsibilities.

The Parks Division is responsible for the planning, organizing, and directing the programs of maintenance and landscaping of all parks, the Sports Complex, the Airport, and street right-of-ways. The major activity involves mowing and trimming with the assistance of seasonal employees. Grounds is also responsible for the planning, organizing and maintaining of the City's buildings. Other Departments assist in the operations necessary to maintain the City buildings. Grounds is also responsible for the operation of the Cemetery, including its maintenance.

Scrapbooking:  Whether you've never "scrapped" before or have done a lot of scrapbooking, you'll learn fun ways to use rubber stamps and craft accessories to create interesting, fun, creative pages to preserve your photos and memories. In the first session, you'll learn some "basics" and will create one double-page spread. In the remaining two sessions, you will create 2 double-page spreads per session. Supplies will be furnished and you'll have the chance to use basic templates, but may alter the designs somewhat to meet your own needs. This session will be taught by Jenni Reling who has 10+ years of rubber stamping experience!!

Fit Walk 2007-2008:  Walk with a friend and get healthy together!!  This program is designed to encourage individuals of all ages to establish a walking program. Participants who walk a total of 350 miles between November and May will receive a T-shirt.  Participants may walk inside or outside, on a treadmill at the Municipal Gym or in the pool.  (Water walking: 20 minutes = 1 mile)  Individuals chart their miles walked on Monthly Mileage Cards available for pick-up and drop-off at the City Office or the White Building in Chautauqua Park.  For more information call the Parks and Recreation Department at 738-2270.
