Police Department

The mission of the Beloit Police Department is the prevention and suppression
of crime, the protection of life and property, the apprehension and prosecution
of offenders, the preservation of the peace, and the enforcement of regulatory
measures. The Police Department is organized into two functional divisions:
Administration and Operations.
Administration is responsible for planning, organizing, staffing, developing,
coordinating, reporting, budgeting, public relations, and training to ensure
the most efficient discharge of the Police Department's duties to the citizens
of Beloit.
The Operations Division is responsible for the officers assigned to shifts
in patrol vehicles on a twenty-four hour per day basis. This system allows
for the minimum response time and the maximum visibility of police presence.
The end result of this system is the efficient performance of the police mission.
The Operations Division is also responsible for the canine unit of the department.
The Operations Division also conducts follow-up investigations of all incidents
reported to the department. They also identify and apprehend offenders; recover,
identify, and preserve property and evidence; and prepare assigned cases for
prosecution in court. This division also is responsible for crime prevention,
educational programs, and provides assistance in internal investigations.
Finally, Operations is responsible to assist other agencies with undercover
operations to detect and apprehend drug offenders.
